James Subudhi
James Subudhi joined WE ACT in the fall of 2007 as the Sustainability Coordinator. Before joining WE ACT, and after graduating from the New School with a B.A. in Urban Studies, he worked on a small family organic vegetable farm in upstate New York learning about the nuances of organic food production. His experience on the farm—working with migrant laborers and managing a stand at a farmers market—inspired him to tackle the equitable components of sustainability.
As the Sustainability Coordinator James coordinates the community visioning process for the redevelopment of the 135th St. Marine Transfer Station, organizes events and programs for the West Harlem Piers Waterfront Park, and directs WE ACT’s Food Justice Campaign. In his work on WE ACT’s Food Justice Campaign, James directs an effort to improve access to healthy food for children in Northern Manhattan.
In this capacity, James is a member of the New York City Food Systems Network, is on the Steering Committee for the Harlem Food and Fitness Consortium of the New York City Food and Fitness Partnership, co-facilitates an Environmental Justice Working Group on Food for the Deputy Secretary of Environment of NY, sits on the advisory board for the Strategic Planning of the NYC Office of SchoolFood, and is on the Advisory Board for the FOCUS Initiative.
In his spare time James is a musician, bicyclist, and runner.
