
Kathy Curtis
Kathleen A. Curtis, Policy Director of Clean New York has two decades of experience in New York's environmental health movement, and is a widely recognized leader within New York and nationally. Kathy co-leads the Coming Clean Collaborative's Policy Workgroup, where she was among the early drafters of the Louisville Charter for Safer Chemicals (louisvillecharter.org) and from which she co-founded the SAFER Campaign. Along with WEACT for Environmental Justice, Kathy co-coordinates the JustGreen Partnership (www.just-green.org), comprised of 45 organizations and individuals working for environmental health and justice for New York's people and communities. Kathy works with the Environmental Health Fund to coordinate the national PBDE Strategic Collaboration. She co-authored Building Green without Going in the Red: A Household Guide to Healthy, Affordable Building Materials, and Is It In Us? Chemical Contamination of Our Bodies – Toxic Trespass, Regulatory Failure, and Opportunities for Action. She was among the first appointments to the NYS Taskforce on Flame Retardant Safety., and also serves on the NYS Petroleum Bulk Storage Advisory Council. Prior to founding Clean New York, Kathy achieved numerous policy victories while Executive Director at Citizens' Environmental Coalition by working closely with the NYS Legislature and other government officials. Prior to CEC, she was Outreach Director at Environmental Planning Lobby (now Environmental Advocates of NY) and worked as a nurse. She is Chair of the Board of Unity Homes Inc. (www.unityhomes.net), board member for the Occupational Environmental Health Center of Eastern New York, and Secretary of the Rotterdam Conservation Advisory Council. She has four children: Adam, Amber, Shannon and Vanessa, and a stepdaughter Rachel. She lives in Rotterdam, NY, with her husband Jim and two youngest daughters.
