Yet New York State still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nceh\/lead\/docs\/CBLS-National-Table-Update-042619-508.pdf\">leads the nation<\/a>\u00a0in cases of children with elevated blood levels. Twelve percent of the children born in the state in 2019 \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/valueofleadprevention.org\/calculations.php?state=New%20York\">28,820 children<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 have been diagnosed with elevated blood lead levels. In fact, childhood lead poisoning rates for communities across New York State are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/investigates\/special-report\/usa-lead-newyork\/\">five to six times higher<\/a>\u00a0than those in Flint, MI at the peak of its water crisis. And studies show that Black children living below the poverty line are twice as likely to suffer from lead poisoning as poor white children.\r\n\r\nWe need your help to change this. Join us for a community conversation on preventing childhood lead poisoning and help us shape a new tool to raise public awareness about the dangers our communities face.
