Though there are positive outcomes, including increasing investment in wind and solar, there are also even more investments being made in untested and problematic energy systems, sources, and infrastructure. These investments not only undermine the efforts to reduce carbon and methane emissions, they also reinforce decades of environmental racism that has made sacrificial zones out of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and low income communities. Unfortunately, they are setting these goals while still green lighting permits for Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) projects in vulnerable frontline communities across the country. This is a form of policy greenwashing that comes at the expense of our lives. As a result, environmental justice communities have to <a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tishmancenter.org\/blog\/statement-epas-proposed-new-carbon-pollution-standards-for-fossil-fuel-fired-power-plants-will-fail-to-protect-ej-communities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">navigate<\/a> a maze of new federal investments in obscure policies and plans. Specifically, carbon capture and sequestration (CCS), utilization (CCUS) and direct air capture projects are being rolled out without transparency and our communities are targeted as development zones.\r\n<blockquote>While CCS is being pushed as a way to cut emissions, it\u2019s actually enabling further fossil fuel reliance.<\/blockquote>\r\nThe emergence of carbon management initiatives, including the Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s (EPA) <a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/newsreleases\/epa-proposes-new-carbon-pollution-standards-fossil-fuel-fired-power-plants-tackle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">latest carbon rule<\/a><a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/newsreleases\/epa-proposes-new-carbon-pollution-standards-fossil-fuel-fired-power-plants-tackle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> proposal<\/a>\u00a0are a major part of the problem. These initiatives are based on the promise of siphoning off greenhouse gas emissions from power plants and industrial facilities, but they often rely more on greenwashing and wishful thinking than on real solutions. They divert focus from the critical need to break free from fossil fuels, such as coal and natural gas, that\u00a0<a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2214629623001640\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">disproportionately burden environmental justice communities<\/a>.\r\n\r\n[embed]https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OiQPo5Hd5Ro&t=4s[\/embed]\r\n<h3><em>HYDROGEN<\/em><\/h3>\r\n[caption id=\"attachment_1037\" align=\"alignright\" width=\"300\"]<img class=\"wp-image-1037 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/weact.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/8155235271_9b19ce6310_c-1-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" \/> Heather Paul via Flickr[\/caption]\r\n\r\nWith the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eenews.net\/articles\/what-to-know-about-does-hydrogen-hubs\/\">Hydrogen Hubs roll-out<\/a>, Hydrogen is being introduced as a \"clean energy\" alternative - but this is false advertising.
