Researchers have linked these and other toxic chemicals found in children\u2019s toys and essential products to cancer, learning disorders, genetic anomalies, hyperactivity, developmental delays, and asthma.\r\n\r\nThese tainted children\u2019s products are sold at stores in Central Harlem, East Harlem, Inwood, Washington Heights, and around our state. We can\u2019t reduce our children\u2019s exposure to this environmental harm by shopping outside of our community or buying more expensive items. We need\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weact.org\/publications\/collecting-dust-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">strong enforcement of existing laws<\/a>\u00a0and passage of new legislation.\r\n\r\nThe\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleanhealthyny.org\/stronger-laws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Child Safe Products Act<\/a>, sponsored by New York State Senator Todd Kaminsky and New York State Assemblymember Steve Englebright, creates a framework for protecting children by requiring product makers to disclose chemicals of concern and restricting some of the most harmful. This is a fight we have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weact.org\/publications\/a-call-for-toxic-free-childrens-products\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">heavily involved in for years<\/a>. And along with our colleagues in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.just-green.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">JustGreen Partnership<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weact.org\/2019\/09\/we-act-supports-the-safe-cosmetics-and-personal-care-products-act-of-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">we support this step<\/a>\u00a0in ensuring that we build healthy communities for our children.\r\n\r\nThe bill\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.harlemworldmagazine.com\/we-act-celebrates-passage-of-ny-state-child-safe-products-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">passed both houses of the legislature<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weact.org\/2020\/02\/governor-cuomo-signs-the-best-in-nation-child-safe-products-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on February 7, 2020 New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed it into law<\/a>.\u00a0Together, we were able to turn off the tap on toxic chemicals and make New York the healthiest state for all families!","include_drop_cap":false}}]},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.1 -
