In response, environmental justice groups from across the U.S. in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weact.org\/campaigns\/dare-to-breathe\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clean Air for the Long Haul<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Cohort underscore how long overdue and needed these updates are to the proposed New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) to reduce smog-forming NOx emissions. These emissions contribute to harmful health effects disproportionately impacting Black and Brown communities living near power plants.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\r\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\r\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMore now than ever before, we need to advance clean air standards that safeguard our communities and public health. We commend EPA for taking action to tighten limits to NOx emissions that are released from gas-combustion and industrial sources. NOx emissions are the main ingredient of ozone or smog that is linked to respiratory and cardiovascular issues,\u00a0 reproductive and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/sciencematters\/links-between-air-pollution-and-childhood-asthma\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">developmental harm <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for babies, including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2021\/feb\/17\/air-pollution-significantly-raises-risk-of-infertility-study-finds\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reduced fertility<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/med.nyu.edu\/departments-institutes\/pediatrics\/divisions\/environmental-pediatrics\/research\/policy-initiatives\/air-pollution-preterm-births\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">preterm births<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as well as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/news-events\/nih-research-matters\/air-pollution-linked-risk-premature-death\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">premature death<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. People of color are more likely to live in areas with the worst ozone pollution, along with many other forms of harmful air pollution. As a cohort, we will stand up for a strong, health-protective final rule by the end of 2025.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"># # #<\/span><\/p>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clean Air For The Long Haul is a nationwide coalition of environmental justice groups working together to win major federal emissions reductions in the power and transportation sectors.
