Ali helped start the office in 1992 during the presidency of George H.W. Bush. His departure comes as President Trump and new EPA administrator Scott Pruitt prepare massive cuts to the agency and environmental justice programming.\r\n\r\n<strong>In response, WE ACT\u2019s Executive Director, Peggy Shepard issued the following statement:<\/strong>\r\n\r\n\u201cWE ACT for Environmental Justice would like to extend our gratitude to Mustafa Ali for his 24 years of service at EPA, and for his efforts to incorporate an environmental justice perspective into regulatory affairs. His work to improve the health and lives of low-income and communities of color on the frontlines of fossil fuel pollution and climate change are commendable.\r\n\r\nWe know that Mustafa will use his prodigious talents in his new position at the Hip Hop Caucus, and continue to advance critical issues facing our communities.
