Most concerning in the bill is language which states, \u201cNotwithstanding any other provision of law, no Federal funds may be used to design, build, maintain, utilize, or provide access to a Federal database of geospatial information on community racial disparities or disparities in access to affordable housing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response,<\/span><b> WE ACT\u2019s Federal Policy Director, Dr. Adrienne Hollis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, issued the following statement:<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis bill, whether intended or not, disproportionately impacts communities of color and\/or those of low socioeconomic status. The documentation of racial disparities in affordable housing supports protection efforts for those routinely discriminated against. \u00a0\u00a0S.103- Local Zoning Decisions Protection Act of 2017 severely undermines efforts to research, identify, and advocate for environmental justice communities nationwide.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Communities like those represented by WE ACT for Environmental Justice in Northern Manhattan<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">those dealing with the crippling onslaught of economic housing disparities caused by gentrification and unlivable wages<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will suffer if this legislation passes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\r\n","include_drop_cap":false}}]},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.1 -
