NEW YORK, NY – New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo has vetoed the dangerous Port Ambrose liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility off Long Island!<\/p>\r\n

In response, WE ACT Deputy Director, Cecil D. Corbin Mark<\/strong> released the following statement:<\/p>\r\n

“We applaud Governor Cuomo for his leadership in deciding to veto the Port Ambrose Natural Gas Facility. His decision was one that will not only benefit the residents of Long Island, but all of New York. The veto of the Port Ambrose project puts us another step away from the use of fossil fuels, which are driving the climate crisis. When natural disasters, like Super-storm Sandy happen, communities like Wyndanch, East, Central and West Harlem as well as Washington Heights are the ones who suffer the harshest consequences. Port Ambrose would have blocked some of the area that can now be used for off shore wind. At the right scale, Offshore wind can bring good manufacturing jobs to New York, and make this state a hub for the wind industry nationally. We look forward to the Cuomo administrations plan for a wind farm. Offshore wind energy provides a green energy option that could power up to 700,000 homes and provide a clean path to employment for many New Yorkers. By shifting to wind, we reduce the demand for dirty peaker plants which are often located in environmental justice communities, pollute the air, and trigger high rates of asthma in places like the South Bronx and East Harlem. Strong leadership of the kind that Governor Cuomo exhibited today, is what is needed to make New York a leader nationally in the fight against the climate crisis and for a brighter, safer energy future.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\r\n","include_drop_cap":false}}]},"yoast_head":"\nWE ACT Statement on Port Ambrose Veto -
