These groups are submitting a public comment and mobilizing dozens of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdF9EctYq2sAYyZF4LTLVSNbGsLk9PvBMETOZxMvdQxITfiwg\/viewform\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">organizational signatures<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> alongside <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hiphopcaucus.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hip Hop Caucus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/daretobreathe.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clean Air for the Long Haul<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is also providing the public with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1J1DozDnX249EgPZKhlU-w9g2NXcec5yHJyZjCrBExCQ\/edit?usp=sharing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a toolkit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to submit their own comments to demand the EPA withdraw this proposed rule.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\r\n<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This collaboration is an urgent line in the sand to defend standards that were strengthened in 2022 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/3781950-biden-administration-finalizes-rule-cutting-truck-pollution\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for the first time in 20 years<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, that while not as strong as advocates had pushed for, were still a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/weact.org\/updates\/the-clean-air-for-the-long-haul-responds-to-the-environmental-protection-agencys-announcement-to-issue-a-supplemental-rulemaking-on-greenhouse-gas-standards-for-heavy-duty-vehicles-in-decembe\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meaningful step forward<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Communities of color and low-income people stood to benefit from this rule as they <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucs.org\/resources\/diesel-pollution-maps\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">often live near transportation hubs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and experience outsized exposure to truck pollution, with this exposure causing increased risk of asthma and respiratory illnesses, heart disease, cancer, preterm births, and premature deaths. Trump\u2019s EPA proposal to weaken this rule will make these issues worse, \u201cincreasing ozone-forming nitrogen oxide pollution from heavy duty trucks by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/07\/09\/nx-s1-5886354\/epa-heavy-duty-truck-emissions\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over 4 percent in 2030 and almost 12 percent by 2055<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d Allied groups condemn this rule and broader attempts to rollback vehicle pollution and climate safeguards, including the recent proposed delay of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/weact.org\/updates\/clean-air-for-the-long-haul-condemns-trump-administrations-continued-efforts-to-gut-tailpipe-pollution-protections\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">light-duty vehicle pollutant standards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and repeal of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/weact.org\/updates\/as-epa-revokes-endangerment-finding-environmental-justice-organizations-continue-to-fight-to-protect-communities-from-climate-chaos-hold-epa-accountable\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Endangerment Finding<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and motor vehicles greenhouse gas emission standards, as actions that will continue to increase health harms already overburdened vulnerable communities.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<strong>In response, organizations shared the following statements:<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Trump EPA\u2019s efforts to weaken truck pollution standards, alongside many other clean air rollbacks, is unacceptable. We fought hard with partners and allies to make clean air protections stronger, because we have to address the burdens that truck pollution places on our communities. Communities of color and lower income people are often living near polluting roads, highways, and ports that concentrate these emissions in our neighborhoods. Diesel pollution from trucks is responsible for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.catf.us\/deathsbydiesel\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more than 8,400 premature deaths, 497,000 missed work days, and $93.9 billion in health damages<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> every year. We do not need polluting industry giveaways, we need strong clean air protections that safeguard our health and future, especially for environmental justice communities.\u201d <\/span><b>- Yosef Robele, Federal Policy Manager at WE ACT for Environmental Justice\u00a0<\/b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCommunities have a right to breathe unpolluted air, and the EPA should be protecting and ensuring that right to the fullest extent of the agency\u2019s power. The EPA\u2019s proposed rollback of the heavy duty NOx rule is foremost a call for technological stagnation that would continue to poison our most vulnerable communities, harm public health and burden truck drivers. Diesel pollution is recognized as a Class 1 Carcinogen. Life-saving emissions reductions technologies are already long established in truck markets across the world, saving lives and allowing communities to breathe. Every day I go on a run or walk with my dog while trucks pass by, choking me with their exhaust,\" said\u00a0<b><i>Kristi Dayemo, Think 100% campaign manager at Hip Hop Caucus. <\/i><\/b>\"The EPA\u2019s proposed rollback of the heavy duty NOx rule will only make these conditions worse for me and many other communities of color, which is why Hip Hop Caucus stands in solidarity with partners and allies to oppose\u00a02027 Heavy-Duty Nitrogen Oxides Rule.\"\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lung.org\/clean-air\/electric-vehicle-report\/delivering-clean-air\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">benefits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of electrifying our freight system are immense, and we need strong standards to encourage the industry to adopt zero-emissions vehicles. We need an EPA that fulfills its mission to \u201cprotect human health and the environment\u201d for everyone, so that communities of color and lower income are provided justice and the ability to finally breathe clean air.
