Washington DC – This week, House Republicans passed a FY25 Interior-Environment Appropriations Bill, which continues efforts by extremists to undermine key environmental justice and public health protections. By slashing essential funding for the Environmental Protection Agency and including devastating riders, the appropriations process continues to be a political playground where House Republicans use crucial time for industry gain, putting lives in the balance. Astrid DuBois, Government Affairs Manager, released the following statement:

Once again, Americans are having to contend with extreme House Republicans weaponizing the appropriations process to attack life-saving environmental justice, public health, and climate mitigation and resilience programs. This is another thinly veiled attempt to benefit Big Oil and polluting industries at the expense of our health, our communities, and our future. The FY2025 House Interior-Environment bill includes devastating cuts to the EPA and eliminates critical environmental justice programs. This week’s actions ignore calls from over 130 organizations and their members to ensure the continued funding and support of the EPA and key environmental justice initiatives for FY 2025 shared in a letter we sent out earlier this year.

We urge the Senate to reject this and other extreme appropriations bills. We implore Congress to pass clean appropriations bills that eliminate poison pill riders and put people first by protecting human health and the environment in our communities.”
