New York City’s Environmental Justice Report & Upcoming Plan
On April 29, 2024, the New York City Mayor’s Office of Climate & Environmental Justice released the Environmental Justice NYC (EJNYC) report and mapping tool, a comprehensive citywide assessment of environmental justice issues, which we believe to be the first of its kind in the nation. We encourage you to read the report and explore the mapping tool to better understand environmental justice in New York City and how your community is being impacted.
EJNYC Plan
The next step in this process is for the city to develop the EJNYC Plan, which is designed to address the issues identified in the report. We are planning to host events in all five boroughs to gather community input – recommended solutions – and environmental and climate justice issues impacting all of the city’s environmental justice communities. If you would like to participate in that, please click here to let us know and we will alert you to future events.
Take the Survey
The New York City Mayor’s Office of Climate & Environmental Justice has launched a short survey to hear from New Yorkers about priority environmental justice concerns in communities across the city, as well as the solutions respondents believe would be most impactful. The EJNYC Plan will put forth actionable strategies to address environmental inequities identified in the 2024 EJNYC Report and embed environmental justice into City decision-making. Survey responses will be used to identify potential gaps and inform the draft EJNYC Plan. We encourage you to take the survey.
