On behalf of our members and leaders, WE ACT for Environmental Justice condemns the Trump administration’s unjust and inhumane treatment of migrant families along the U.S.-Mexico border and across the country.
This latest wave of terror will have devastating public health consequences for the communities we serve in northern Manhattan and throughout the U.S. The dangerous impact of the stress and trauma of separating children from their families is both immediate and long-term, from impeding the child’s brain development to cardiovascular disease, and threatens to compound existing health disparities faced by underserved communities.
Keeping families together and safe from the trauma of detention and deportation is essential to our vision of healthy and just communities. As the principles of Environmental Justice affirm the leadership of those most directly impacted by injustice, WE ACT calls on our partners and allies to stand with immigrant communities leading on the frontlines of our shared struggles.
