Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer invited Peggy Shepard and other environmental leaders to speak at his press conference in East Harlem on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 announcing the Clean Transit for America plan. Among the plan’s improvements for public transit, it would provide funds for the MTA to purchase all-electric buses for its entire fleet. Before endorsing the plan, Peggy talked about WE ACT’s history of fighting the MTA to reduce emissions from its buses and depots – and winning. She also urged the Senator to find funding to replace the city’s dirty diesel school bus fleet with all-electric buses as well.
