  • In an April 21, 2020 article in Truthout, WE ACT’s Policy & Advocacy Coordinator Sonal Jessel discussed the challenge that summer’s extreme heat events – which have been increased in frequency, duration, and intensity by climate change – pose for residents of low-income communities and communities of color who are being asked to shelter in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even those who can get access to an air conditioner, Jessel explained, may not be able to afford the cost of operating it. That is why WE ACT is working to expand the funding for LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program) to cover the cost of air conditioning as well. Read the Article
