In an April 21, 2020 article in Truthout, WE ACT’s Policy & Advocacy Coordinator Sonal Jessel discussed the challenge that summer’s extreme heat events – which have been increased in frequency, duration, and intensity by climate change – pose for residents of low-income communities and communities of color who are being asked to shelter in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even those who can get access to an air conditioner, Jessel explained, may not be able to afford the cost of operating it.
