In an August 21, 2020 article in the New York Times, WE ACT for Environmental Justice’s Policy & Advocacy Coordinator Sonal Jessel voiced concerns about the effectiveness of New York City’s Get Cool program, which was designed to provide free air conditioners to seniors in need of assistance in New York City. One of our members, Sherrell Walker, was also quoted, discussing the struggle she had to go through to get her 95 year-old mother an air conditioner for their apartment in NYCHA’s Frederick Douglass Houses.
