WE ACT FOR ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE RESPONDS TO ANNOUNCEMENT OF SENATOR KAMALA HARRIS AS DEMOCRATIC VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

WASHINGTON, DC – Today Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden announced Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) as his pick for vice president in the 2020 presidential election. WE ACT for Environmental Justice released the following response:

“In her role as a U.S. Senator, Kamala Harris (D-CA) has welcomed the input and guidance of environmental justice advocates when developing legislation that can address the climate crisis and health disparities. We need national leadership that demonstrates a commitment to solutions like those provided in the Climate Equity Act and Environmental Justice for All Act that she sponsored and the Maternal Health Pandemic Response Act, which she co-sponsored. These policy proposals center the knowledge and expertise of frontline communities in responding to the greatest health challenges of our time – the climate crisis and COVID-19 pandemic – both of which have been exacerbated by systemic racism. In looking toward the next administration, we remain committed to our mission of creating healthy communities by ensuring that Black, Brown, Indigenous and low-income White communities evolve from being sacrifice zones to healthy and safe environments.”
