NEW YORK — New York City Mayor Eric Adams released his Fiscal Year 2024 Preliminary Budget  that includes some commitment to the environment, resiliency, and fighting climate change but once again comes up short in addressing the urgency of the climate crisis, the disproportionate impacts of climate change, air pollution, childhood lead poisoning, and other environmental hazards on low-income communities and communities of color. Sweeping cuts on vacant positions and lack of ambitious investments in agencies crucial to confronting these issues will hinder progress toward a cleaner, greener, healthier New York. We urge the Mayor to center justice in all environmental and climate initiatives and provide the funding needed for them to succeed.

Mayor Adam’s 2024 Preliminary Budget is available here. And to see what policies we have prioritized for this year, WE ACT’s 2023 Policy Agenda is available here (PDF). We look forward to working with the Mayor, City Council, and their staff on these issues to ensure a cleaner, greener, healthier city for all.
